Why My Inbox Keeps Growing Fast?

My inbox in Gmail tends to become really bulky quite often.  I found myself spending time deleting messages in bulk.  It makes me think why I have to clean up my inbox every time I check my mail.  And here is what I found.

When I find websites that sound 'interesting' at that moment, I tend to 'subscribe' to their newsletter-- just to keep getting updated news.  Of course, I have lost interest in those 'interesting' contents in a rather short time-- only to find other 'more interesting' websites to subscribe to.

I also keep old email messages.  I mean really 'old' messages like over 20 years old.  Some were from my son's guardians when he was studying in the UK.  Others were from old acquaintances from work with whom I had lost contact for a long time.  They have changed their email addresses and I couldn't find their current addresses, so I keep their email as part of memory keeping.

The most important factor is my laziness.  Instead of checking and deleting emails every day, I postponed it till I forgot about them.  It's boring and uninteresting to see emails from shops or websites offering 'special discounts' for membership or subscription.  I know I should have 'unsubscribed' those emails, but when I click on them, I often think that it looks quite interesting (again).  And those emails end up in my fat inbox.

Typing it out like this makes me think it's time to do something with my fat inbox.  I'm going 'unsubscribe' most mails and start from a blank slate.  Let's see if I can succeed.
